Having left Moscow in 1991 as a Jewish immigrant, Julia has a deep understanding of food as a creation of memories and traditions. It's a different kind of home that you carry with you and can bring back to life at any time. At Julia's family table, the history and traditions of Russians, Ukrainians, Lithuanians and Jews intertwine and unite.
Join in for a 5 course dinner where one of the most important ingredients is the memory passed down from generation to generation. Where cooking becomes, on the one hand, a search for identity and the preservation of traditions and, on the other hand, a game of changing those traditions.
Whether you're from the former Soviet Union, a cultural enthusiast or just someone who appreciates good food, come to the table, because on this night only Julia will be sharing her memories, taking Soviet food to a modern level and serving the greatest hits of Soviet heritage in tavolata style.
In the Soviet tradition, zakuski are small bites designed to whet the appetite and stimulate conversation. Imagine a colourful array of pickled vegetables, smoked fish and savoury spreads such as Grandmother's Blueones, Salad Olivier, Gefilte Fish and, of course, plenty of Smetana with each dish. Get ready for some great meatless sharing dishes in a family atmosphere.... and most probably some vodka shots.
